High scores from the Decanter World Wine Award 2020

2020. September 28.

The Decanter World Wine Awards (DWWA) is one of the most important international competition in the wine industry. In this years February, we sent for the first time our samples to the Decanter's competition, a total of five wines. We are very proud that all our entries submitted for DWWA scored 90-85 points. It is a promising result and a confirmation that our sparkling wines, frizzante wines and still wines reflect our aspiration for excellence.

It's a great honour for us that our Vinca Theresia Rhein Riesling 2017 was judged 90 points by the jury, making it one of the top twenty wines in our region. According to the jury's tasting notes: attractive lemon, lime and a touch of paraffin on the nose, vibrant fruit and racy acidity, mineral edge on the finish characterize our cool-climate Rhein Riesling.

Our petillant wine made by the Asti method, the pinot noir-based 2019 Friza Rosé, also performed outstandingly with 88 points. It is great to see that our petillant wine can hold their own in an international setting. In their notes, the jury describes Friza Rose as a "fresh and fruity with nice purity and crunchy acidity."

Launched in 2004, the Decanter World Wine Awards is the world’s largest and most influential wine competition. During the judging month od the 17th edition of DWWA, 116 expert wine judges, including 37 Masters of Wine and nine Master Sommeliers, tasted and debated the merits of 16,518 wines from 56 countries. “When consumers see a DWWA sticker on a bottle, be it Platinum, Gold, Silver or Bronze, they can be reassured that the wine in question has been judged by regional experts and specialists before receiving its medal. We discuss, we argue, we fight it out...that's all part of the judging fun. Even with social distancing! But that's also how you get the results which have made the DWWA an international wine benchmark." says Andrew Jefford, Regional Co-Chair for Northern & Eastern Europe, Caucasus & The Balkans.
